A message from Gunnar's mom Rachel:
Gunnar was born  in October of 2013 with Fibular Hemimelia. Fibular Hemimelia is a condition that caused him to be born without feet. At 4 months old Gunnar became a patient at Shriners Hospital in Tampa. At 10 months old, Gunnar received bilateral amputations in order to be fitted with prosthetics.
Since Gunnar's bilateral amputations in August of 2014, Gunnar has continued to thrive! After several months of physical therapy, Gunnar started walking at 14 months old and hasn't slowed down yet. Growing so fast, Gunnar received his second pair of prosthetics in 2015 and will receive his third pair in just a few months. Gunnar is a very sweet and spunky little boy! There is nothing that holds Gunnar back as he is into everything.
Throughout Gunnars surgeries and many trips to Shriners Hospital, God has continued to use Gunnar in several ways. Since Gunnar was born, several of our family members have come to know Christ! My husband and our 7 year old son have also accepted Christ as their savior and were baptized in 2015. God continues to shed his light as my husband and I have also had the chance to meet other children and families who are patients at Shriners Hospital.
Through all of this, we have specifically clung to Isaiah 40:31. This verse is very special to us for many reasons. One being that when we are tired from everyday life, we have hard days, get stressed about medical costs and travel expenses, or just can't find the energy to make another trip to and from Shriners Hospital, we remember that God is always there beside us to see us through it. He IS the one who equips us with the tools we need to keep fighting. We see it everyday in our sweet Gunnar. Gunnar's pure joy for life and constant determination is a reminder of God's undying love for each of us.
We started the term "Gunnar's Runners" to help show our love for God by sharing Gunnar's story,  to help spread the gospel and to let Gunnar know that we are there to support him every step of the way throughout his journey.
By wearing one of our shirts, you are helping our family with medical costs and traveling costs as we will be making several more trips to Shriners Hospital throughout 2016. We thank you so much in advance for your help and support!
